Day 1 Build

Today has been the most amazing building experience I could've ever imagined! It consisted of mostly windy and rainy weather because we got hit with the tail end of Japan's typhoon, but that didn't stop us from getting the job done. We started from the very foundation of the house. Since we're building for an entire community, it's actually more of an apartment complex. The building process today was just to dig 8 holes - 3 feet wide, 3 feet long, and 4 feet deep - for the septic tanks. My team of 4 had to work mainly with a sledgehammer to smash through the cement, but other groups were able to use a shovel and dig more easily. Aside from the building aspect of today, my favorite part - and the most memorable - was meeting the families we're building for. They were so welcoming and grateful to have us there; they just couldn't seem to thank us enough! The children were so precious - drawing with me and signing songs from Frozen. This truly is a humbling experience I will never forget.
